# 2017 Grade 7 Math Challenge Elimination Round (Questions 1-25)

This is the 2017 MTAP Grade 7 Math Challenge questions 1 to 25. Questions 26-30 including the pdf  can be found here.

1.) If A= {1,3,5,7}, B = {3,7,11} and C ={3,11,19}, find A ∩ (BC).

2.) Let A = {a, b, c ,}, B = {a, d, e, } and C = {cx} be the subsets of {a, b, c, d, e, }. Find all possible x so that (A ∪ C) ∩ B has exactly three elements.

3.) Give the fraction form of $2. \overline{16}$.

4.) Give the rational number that is midway between $\dfrac{3}{4}$ and $\dfrac{7}{8}$

5.) Anna walks $\frac{32}{7}$ due west, then turns back and walks $5 \frac{5}{7}$ km due west. How far is Anna from her starting point?

6.) Write the answer as a decimal: $\frac{5}{13} \div \frac{-4}{39}$.

7.) In the number line below, the interval [−2, −1] and [2, 3] are each divided into equal parts. Find the distance between A and B.

8.) If X and Y are two sets such that X ∪ Y has 16 elements, X has 10 elements and Y has 13 elements, how many elements does X ∩ Y have?

9.) In a class, 34 play basketball, 22 play volleyball, 8 play both both sport, and 5 play neither. How many students are in the class?

10.) If $a = 21$ and $b=-16$, find $2a + 3b$.

11.) Integers x and 3 differ by 8. What value/s can $x$ have?

12.) The sum of integers $-x$ and 6 is −3. What value/s can x have?

13.) Evaluate: $\dfrac{86}{-42 + (-10)}$.

14.) Evaluate: 6(28739) + 28739(4).

15.) Between which two integers does $\sqrt{200}$ lie?

16.) What is $12 \sqrt{15} \div 4 \sqrt{3}$?

17.) Estimate $\sqrt{18}$ to the nearest tenth.

18.) Arrange the following numbers in increasing order: 3.14, 3.141, 3.14, π.

19.) A bunch of peeled bananas weighs 4 kilograms. If this is to be divided into 25 servings, how many grams would each serving be?

20.) If cloth costs P 200 per yard, how much is the cost per meter? You may express your answer in fraction form. [Use 1 ft= 61/200m].

21.) Write the following expression in symbols: ”Seven subtracted from five times the sum of $2x$ and $y^2$” Do not simplify.

22.) Find the sum of $-x+3y$ and half of $6x - 2y + 1$. Simplify.

23.) Insert parenthesis in the expression of  ab · 2a + 1 so that it becomes equal to $2a^2 - 10a + 1$.

24.) Simplify $5x + 3 [ 3x -- 6(x + 1)]$.

25.) In the expansion of $(x - 3y + 2)^2$, what is the coefficient of $xy$?
